I found a 670 Minnie LP. How do I tell if it is a regular or a super? Is one better or more valuable than the other?

The best way to tell if s/n isn't available is the super will have hydrostatic power steering with abelt driven automotive type pump off the front of the engine. Regular 670 will have a steering shaft from steering wheel to front axle casting. Also I believe the 670 will originally have a generator & the Super will have an alternater. This isn't always accurate because a lot of guys converted them from gen. to alt.

Look at the serial number tag. If it's less than 29901892 it's not a super. The following list details the serial numbers. I believe, until 1970, the gas & lp tractors used the same serial number run.

M670 - GAS
----- ----- ---
1964 29900001 - 29900006
1965 29900007 - 29901891

M670 - DIESEL
----- ----- ---
1964 300000 1 - 300000 4
1965 300000 5 - 30000819

M670 SUPER - GAS
----- ----- ----
1966 29901892 - 29903579
1967 29903580 - 29904454
1968 29904455 - 29904594
1969 29904595 - 29905004
1970 29905005 - 29905104

M670 SUPER - GAS
----- ----- ----
1966 29901892 - 29903579

M670 SUPER - DIESEL
----- ----- ----- -
1966 30000820 - 30001634
1967 30001635 - 30002309
1968 30002310 - 30002569
1969 30002570 - 30002860
1970 30002861 - 30003085

M670 SUPER LP
----- ----- -
1970 36200001 - 36200075

M670 Super in reply to Tom Peterson, 03-06-2005 21:00:23
My dad is looking for a 1966 M670 that belonged to his father and was sold approximately 11 to 12 years ago in a farm auction. This tractor was purchased by someone around the Madison, Wisconsin area. If you know of anyone who has purchased a tractor like this in this area please email me at annetrae@yahoo.com. Thankyou.

If the engine is chassis brown then it's a M670, and if the engine is body color then it's a M670 Super. As with anything, Super means updated. It has several updates on it as well as different tin work styling and dash styling.

Any M670 is a fun, versatile tractor! Buy it if you have the money! :-)

Not necessarily. Our early '66 M670 Super is a brown belly.

Great tractor...

Thanks for the clarification. That is just a general assumption. As you say, their must be instances where that wouldn't be the case. Super's should have a white painted strip going around the top of the hood, with a black stripe on top of that. They should have a brighter yellow I believe. Again, only an assumption as some are seen all gold with a white strip around the hood. The M670 Super has MM lettering on the top in front and the M670 has MM lettering on a white band going around the front.

Those are some of the visual differences between the two models, and should be enough to distinguish.

I can't remember the sn off the top of my head, but Dad looked it up awhile back - said it was the 140th '66 model Super.

It's still in working clothes, even has the original dealer stickers on the tank skirts. Should be a fairly good example for reference.

I've got some pics of it on my web page.

Thanks. We like it too.

There are a few things that need some attention yet. The front axle center-section has been broken and welded (common problem). We've got a replacement center, just need to find some time to clean it up and make the swap.

Hydraulics are a bit cranky. No telling when it had a fluid and filter change, but I think that will probably take care of it. One of the Tel-O-Flo adjustment levers is busted off - need to find a replacement.

Missing a sway block for the tph. Need to find or fabricate a replacement for that.

It's a nice companion to the M5.

I think one of our levers is busted off on the hydraulic adjustment as well. Thinking so....

The low torque slips, and the pto turns when it is disengaged, so we have it chained tight. Do you know where we could find some parts for it?

I'd start with Welter's and Everett's. I've had good dealings with both.

Thanks.....

I'd figured i'd give Welter's a call. Not sure what it will all need. Also not sure i'll get to it yet this season as I need the tractor for planting. I'd like to get it done before then though.
