Been looking for oil felts for a 1947 ZTU.
Where could I get them or is there something
else that can be used. Thanks

I used some felt deals from a hub, cut them aparts, and sharpened the edge of some small tubing to punch a hole through it. It slid on the oil tube well, and i put the nails in. It took a few tries. I build new oil tubes, but be prepared to cuss at least once or twice in the process!

I don't know which oil felts you are talking about. There are numerious ones on Moline tractors. Crankshaft, rear axiles, steering shaft, etc. What I have done in the past and this works most of the time except for internal engine felts is to use (2) two seals of this day and age putting them in place of the one felt that is in there.....Works for me most of the time if at all fesable...deadeye

The felts are the internal. They are on the oil
drip tube. Also how would I install them.
Thanks deadeye.

I've heard of people using felt-type chainsaw gas filters. I don't know how hard they would be to put in or how hard it would be to get a hole in the center of them.

I've got several R and Z engines that don't have those felts and they don't seem to miss them as far as I can tell.

I've used the chain saw filters with good success in the past. Get the ones that are a hollow tube, cut them down one side, wrap them around the tube overlapping the ends then push the nail through the overlapping ends and through the hole in the oil tube. You'll need a pair of pliers to push the nails through the felt. I usually remove the clamp at the top of the cylinder that holds the oil rail in the head and push it down to gain better access to the nails. You'll have to have the cylinders removed from the engine to push the oil rail down as they will protrude from the bottom surface of the cylinder.
