I am repainting a 1948 U, and was wondering what paint #'s people are using for the red accent paint on the wheels? I will probably be using DuPont Centari paint, but may use Martin-Senour instead.

Jeff: I use the Martin Senour Acyrlic Enamel
on the wheels and implements as it matches the orginal
color fairly close. The M/S # 99P540 Cheery/Red.
For the Prairie Gold use 99L3749.
These are custom mixed paints so you have to find a
dealer that can mix in the store. Be prepared for
"sticker shock"! I bought a gallon of each just
last week. ~95.00 for the Prairie Gold and ~125.00
for the Red. But on the up side, this is good automotive
type paint that will hold up and not fade out in a year or so like some of the cheap stuff can.
Good luck on your paint job! - Steve

< The original formula number for the MM red used on wheels and grills has been lost for a number of years, so restorers have used whatever look "right". I would be interested in reading whatever replys you get so that I can make the best choice when the time comes. I would also like to hear your opinion on what type of paint would work best for a show type finish. You mentioned Centari and Marin-Seynour, but I don't really know the difference when it comes to manufacturers. Any thoughts on a type of paint an amateur like myself can use that'l work without fading or peeling?
