A model R can get down to 2750# with a nice ZA 206 engine in it. I have about a 3000# one. It has not pulled yet. 2500# is a bit of a stretch. I am selling a not-so-pretty colored parts RTU with a ZA engine that goes with it. Most of it is complete with good metal minus the platform. $350 takes it, extra 206 engine and all. To get down to 2500#, you'd buy an M-M BF (Avery).

I think a ZAU would be an excellent choice depending on "ALL" the weight combos. Check out the ZAU for 750 dollars in the photo ads.

Good luck getting a ZA down to 2500. I've heard of R's pulling 2750. A buddy of mine has a BF that still has all of the hydraulics, PTO etc, and carries a couple hundred pounds in the 3250.

Drop a 206 crankcase into an R and you've got a good 3500/4000 pound tractor for cheap $$$.

Check your club rules. A 206 is not stock in a R and some club rules spell out stock blocks. Most of the pullers don't know much about Molines but they are catching on. I haven't had it happen to me but nothing would hurt worse than to be caught cheating in my opinion.

The ZA engine would be a stock block, just not stock crankcase or crank. All the R, ZT, ZA, ZB blocks were identical.

What about a powerblock in a John Deere, or a 281 block in a IH, or a wd block in a wc, or even a low, low gear in a 400 farmall with a TA that is supposed to run 1.6 mph and runs much slower than a 60 John Deere (which is 1.5 mph) just speeking of things to watch for in farm stock. Just put a max speed on all classes and and to heck with all the other junk that everybody else wants to cry about. JUST MY 2 CENTS WORTH.
