I'm putting a 206 Z motor together for stock pulling. I'm thinking about making a 2 pc manifold by making my own intake and using the factory exhaust. Has anyone done this and dynoed the results? Is it worth my effort for a close to stock rpm tractor? thanks

old racers trick was to sandwich a piece of copper screen wire between 2 carb base gaskets...i did same to intake manifold gaskets and took nearly 2 full seconds off my ET...try it sometime

I will be trying a LP intake on mine, but I have heard of putting a 90 degree elbo OFF a LP U302 engine. Port spacing is the same, but it is WAY BIGGER inside.

I usually don't like oversized intakes on gas tractors because at low rpms they can fall on their face from low turbulance and fuel seperation. With a Z engine I think big should be ok because all of the corners it has will keep the turbulance. I think having it seperate from the exhaust and having it cooler should help.

Have you ever seen a U302 manifold on one? What kind of elbow did they use to adapt the U302 manifold to the block?

Some pullers down South of MI have done it. I had one bolted on mine to see if it would fit. The elbow has to be home made or adapted from something. A little porting work would really help that engine out if you put on one of those big manifolds. That air has to turn and twist all over just to get in the combustion chamber.

I am one of those South of Mich. pullers..... in OH. I have a 302 intake on my stock Z with a LP head. Homemade elbow to the carb. Adds about 3 HP. My Z will dyno about 52 HP at 540 PTO.

that's good results from a Z. Did the bigger intake effect the performance at a dead lug? right now I have .125" over pistons, LP head and I'm most likely going to have the cam ground. I think I'll still go the homemade route and use the factory cast neck ,(opened up of course). The rest of the manifold is pretty well out of site.

My old Z will lug down to idle speed if you pull it that hard. It has has a little bigger venturi in the carb, out of a 4 star I think. Avenger

Don't know if it will help or not. I do know that back in the 60s they made an intake for the old slant 6 dodge engines that was about twice as long as the stock one and it added about 25-75 more HP to a stock engine so I would think it might help with the Z engine.
