I need a moline guru.I purchased a tractor awhile back.It seems to run okay but I didn't notice that the pto doesn't turn off.The lever snaps in and out like it should but the shaft never stops. Is this a major problem and if so how hard will it be to fix it.Also there are two different serial #s on it one on the side with the battery starting 171 and one on the opposite side starting 169,are these for different sections or is this two tractors put together? Thanks for any help.

Just thought I might add that while it takes the extra to shut the motor off and then hook up the PTO (seems like a hassle), but it is not direct gear drive and therefore is not likely to ever break the PTO shaft off like I have seen done on tractors were they have gear driven PTOs.

On mowers, we had to lift up the bar to get it to stop and you did not want to get your fingers in it letting it down.

The M5 should have two serial numbers. The one under the platform near the brake pedals is the tractor serial number. The one one the side of the engine is the engine serial number. They will not match.

The PTO on these and many other early MM tractors have no brake to stop them from turning when not loaded or connected to anything. When hooked to a piece of equipment that doesn't turn too easy, the PTO should stop when turned off. If it doesn't, the clutch plates are likely warped & will need replaced. The cause of warpage is usually that the clutch was not kept adjusted so that it takes some effort to snap it over center. This allows it to slip and warp the plates. John
