I am in the market for either a 1350 or 1355 LP. I am very unfamiliar with the 55 series rear ends. I have heard of several bad stories about these, are these common place or somewhat unusual? Is this rear end heavy enough for every day use? Any do's or don'ts? I need something in this HP range and have been looking for quite some time. I am considering buying a 1978 model 1270 CASE, is this a mistake, or will I be happy with it. I have always run LP MM tractors. But I really want a decent cab tractor. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated. Thank You!

This is a late reply, but... I bought a 1355 last year. I have spent, and will spend some more, time replacing wiring, hoses, seals, etc. Mine was used probably very heavily in central Ne for most of it's life. I have had no complaints and I agree its a powerful beast. Mine has a White cab. Doors come off in the summer. "Cause I;m too cheap to fix the AC. The major caution I've heard is to ensure that the oil pump has been updated with the external after item. These engines otherwise have problems with low/loss ov oil pressure. When I first saw green paint under the yellow on the rear-end, I thoought sombody had put a John Deer rear end on my moline;)

I dont know a whole lot about the 1355's...I know a man that has a few of them I'm sure he would sell, he deals in MM's...a neighbor has a 1055 that they really like and dad has a G1000 that we think the world of. I do know that the 1355 is a horse. thats a lot of engine in that tractor.

Tough choice is right, both are good on fuel and only time i ever heard anything bad about the 1355 is when a old MM dealer told me white flew everyone in to see the new tractors and the d@##$ b@## had switched to a oliver rearend and three broke down in the field that day and the mm dealers all looked at each other and said how are we gonna sell this.I know of two and they are both used hard and well liked(1355)I would buy the 1355 because it looks bettor and is rare.specially if it has the 3-speed over/under.

What a tough choice! The Case 70 series are pretty bulletproof and make nice tractors. 1370 and 1570 shared common rear end with 1270 and were known to fail fairly commonly in those models. 1270 was okay. Case 504 is a good engine, but oh that MM 585, what a beast. A good engine as well. Haven't heard anything negative about 1355 rear ends. They were Oliver and Oliver had many of the toughest transmissions/final drives of the industry. Same rear as Oliver's 2255 which was bulletproof. Neighbor has a G-1355 Oliver (same as MM G-1355 only rare) and loves it. Uses it for primary tillage on 900 acres. The White cab vs. Case cab is a toss-up. Personally, the White cab has far superior visibility to the rear/drawbar/3pt. area due to rear fuel tank location on the Case. The Ampli-Torc (Oliver's Over/Under) in the MM 1355 is best powershift; far better than the Case powershift if the 1270 is so equipped. Bottom line: you'll probably be happy with either purchase, but all I'll say is that the 1355 is quite an impressive tractor.
