Hi guys, I need your expert help again.I was using the tractor last weekend and it started to make a howling noise.Sounds like it"s coming from the pto,i turned it off as quick as i could to find the problem. The pump was getting hot,so,i"m hoping that the fluid is the only thing broken down.If it is a bearing can i still get one and fix it? What would you suggest? Also in the owners manual it says use a lithium soapbase grease in the water pump hub,i nor anyone around here can find or heard of such a thing.I"m sorry one more dumb question, someone told me to use type A hydraulic fluid, can"t find type A only.Oh and the 3-point is the tel-o-lift I believe. Thanks for any help.BPH

White lithium grease is about as common as dirt. Do a search on the web and you will see. White lithium can be had at any good hardware store, NAPA, or any good parts store.

The hydraulic fluid can either be Dextron 3 transmission fluid or if you change it all out you can use hytrans.
You check the hydraulic fluid by removing the cover with the rate and cycle levers in it. Should be 1"-1'1/2" below the cover.

I can't tell from your post whether you have 1 problem or two. Are you saying you turned the pto off or the entire tractor? If shifting the pto out of engagement changed things you may have a bad bearing in the pto.

I don't know how to come up with genuine water pump grease either, so I use marine grease. Its usually white.

I would think that you can still find a bearing for it. Go to an industrial parts store, remember to take along the old bearing, or what's left of it. The local MM dealer always said to use Dexron automatic transmission fluid in MM tractors.
