: I recently came across a MM at a sale that I think is just a plain U. The tag read UTIL, but my knowledge of MM's is very limited. It was a standard front axle, and had a large articulated loader on it, and had a offset seat to the left from behind. No PTO or belt pulley, large weight holder on back. Can anyone tell me anything about this tractor? M-M made a UTIL. The "U" stood for series type, "T" stood for Tractor, "I" stood for Industrial, and "L" stood for shuttLe shift. Many UTILs were equipped with Lull Shovel-loaders (model "4-C", I believe). Over 1200 "UTIL"s were made from 1948 to 1957. From '48 part-way through '53, the UTIL had a 6-volt electrical system. In 1953, M-M changed the UTIL's electrical system to 12-volt. A military version of the UTIL, desingated the "UTIL-M" (M for military) in 1953 for the Korean War effort. 357 UTIL-Ms were produced. I hope this information helps. Respectfully, Brian Rukes, The M-M Registry
