I am currently restoring my first tractor a 41 JD b that was given to me by my grandfather before he passed away. My other grandfather started our construction company and the built a 18 hole golf course which I work on today. My dad just told me I could have the 49 MM U wide front that did most of the construction of the golf course with a small pan. When it was last used 5 or so years ago it needed a ring and probably valve job.I was wondering how much a U goes for unrestored/restored.

No, I just know about what the Deere is worth and was just wondering for curiousity what the MM is worth. It is worth a lot to me regardless from price. Also when the MM is running right it could probably pull my little b in circles.

Nothing at all against the 2 cyl. I own one. However, the U is a much bigger tractor and is a PULLER. I grew up on one, and am now restoring a 1948 UTS - LP. I purchased it a few years ago for $1175. The sheet metal was very good, and the rear tires were near new. Front tires are car tires, so need replaced. I am rebuilding the clutch, overhauling the engine, rebuilding steering knuckles and a lot of smaller stuff. I am also taking it down to bare metal and will paint with quality paint. As of right now, I have approximately $2500 in parts. I will need to pay a guy something for helping me overhaul the engine and pay a buddy $200 to paint for me. I expect to have maybe $3500 in the restoration. I would never get that much out of it, but I am not doing it to sell. It is a twin of the one that I grew up on.

I'm guessing we all did some things like that when we were young. I remember that ours would "pop wheelies" when you engaged the clutch quickly. Now that I am paying for a new clutch and some transmission work, I won't be doing that anymore!!!!

Yea, they can be expensive but is is fun! The one I am about to get needs rings and possibly a valve job. My grandpa used it to form our golf course my did used it to expand it and I even drove it when i was little 8 or 9 to do some disking. That thing was a beast, I would drag the disk through the sod piles just to pull the front tires of the ground a little when the old man wasnt looking. lol

I gave $1100 for my about 4 years ago, it was running fine and had a new paint job about 5 years before I bought it. It had good tires, good sheet metal, and all the parts where there.
