Can I put a magneto on my overhead valve 206 which now has a distributor setup? Also, can I put a distributor on a 403 that had a magneto?

Yes, you can convert your 206 to mag. Why you would want to is beyond me. The distribuitor has a built in advance curve that tailors the spark timing to the rpm. which should produce a tiny bit more power all other things being equal, because the magento has one advance-from the retarded cranking position to full advance that does not change with rpm.

You will have to come up with an oil pump shaft and a drive gear for the camshaft. what you have now has 16 teeth each and you need the 2 gears that have 12 and 24 teeth. As far as I know the old gears and shaft from the L-head engines will work.

If you want to shed weight use one of them new dry cell batteries or else a motorcycle battery.

You can put the dist in a 403, take the oil filler cap off and see if it has the dist drive cut into the waterpump shaft, the dist goes in from the top, not where the mag mounts, if it doesn't, you need the newer style shaft. This can be quite expensive, just look around and ask, someone will have a shaft reasonable. One of my best friends tried to sell me the shaft for $250, said they are rare, got one on YT for $50 just by asking. My goal is to put the hyd pump in place of the mag, need to have a 4 plow tractor to go to plow days with. Gotta have the hyd for p/s and plow lift.
