Dave, there's a picture of an M-5 standard in this
pages photo gallery. Take a look....it should tell
you what you really have.

M-5 styling is similar to that of a G-VI only a little smaller in scale. I would describe a 5-star
as looking very similar to a 445 since they were
from the same era. Is your M-5 a diesel? If so, the diesel engine serial numbers on an M-5 are the same as a 5-star. I was a little suprised when I found this out. This may be part of the confusion.
Hope this helps.

I was unable to find a 5-Star on Tony Turner's www.minneapolis-moline.com web page. There is a nice 2-page color photo (p. 108-109)in the Motorbooks Wendel/Morland M-M Tractors 1870-1969 book that runs about $20-$25.

I think the M5 had the headlights mounted inside the front grill like the 4-Star? The 5-Star had them mounted on the outside of the large hood tin in those that I have seen. You can see the M5 on pages 122-123 in the above-referenced book. We have a 1964 M-602 that is not styled an awful lot different from the M5.
