The low range in my tractor had been slipping for a long time, but now I have no low range at all. What is wrong? How much will it cost to fix? Where can I get good parts for the lest amount of money? I need good information, I use this tractor on a very regular bases around the farm. I have just been using high range for the last 3 or 4 months.

Thanks

Find an access hole where the hi/lo lever enters the tractor. Look inside the hole. You will notice several plates inside. Hi range these plates are compressed and activate the Hi. The plates normally have teeth (not sure of tech name). Problem with MM tractors is these teeth barke off. I beleive you can interchange between similar size tractors. eg M5, 5 star etc. You have to split the tractor to fix. If too expensive. Drain oil. Use magnet to pull out teeth. Fill with oil and will run for years. Speed selection is limited. Noice level high in low.

Hey Neil. I just cracked open my old 5 star for the same reason. It's the what the local mechanic called the "Sprag". It probably just needs to be rebuilt cause it has grooves worn in it. Good luck. I had success with the sprag, but found out the PTO shaft and hub were trash afterwards. LOL
Isn't that just the way it is?
