Hello gents. I've been involved in depth with Farmall/IH machines my whole tractor hobby career. I know little to nothing about M-M machines. I'm considering purchasing a 4 or 5 STAR model for pulling. Parts availability seems almost non-existent. I know this isn't true but I'm not looking in the right areas I'm sure. Are new engine kits/parts(pistons, rings, bearings, etc. etc) available? One thing I've been looking at is the 5 STAR and it's 283 engine. I've seen a few pull and they seem like strong running engines especially given the weight of the machine itself. Any info you guys can share on engine/trans/axle parts. General prices for parts? Any known issues with either the 4 or 5 STAR models? I'm trying to get a big picture of what I'd be getting into. Thanks for any help.

Brian

I am no puller but I can say about any part you would need for either a 4star or 5star is out there. The weak point-if there is a weak point-would be that the low side of the torque amplifier sometimes slips. Parts are out there and they can be fixed. kinda pricey, though. I'm just warning you that the about 40 year old tractor you may buy may have this problem.

Depending on your clubs rules you can swap parts to get these-especially the 5 star- to really make power.

There is a list of parts suppliers on the www.minneapolis-moline.com website.

Thanks. I found that web site the other day.
