Working on a 57" GB LP. Set clearance on valve"s. Got a problem with rocker arms not oiling. Intake valves on no# 2 + 3, exhaust on no#4. Cleaned oil passages. Oil pressure at 25/28 lbs. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Thanks for everyone's help. I think the problem is with the rockerarms. The shaft seems clean. The rockerarms will slide to the side and oil flows out the hole in shaft. Washed/cleaned with berrymans carb cleaner, but still no flow. Need to disassemble and clean right. Thanks again for the advice and help. Don

You can clean out those shafts. But its messy and not easy. After you remove the stands, springs and rockers, remove the cotter pins on each end. Then you can either drill and tap one plug for a 1/4 or 5/16 screw or you can drive the plug to the other end using a 3/8 or 7/16" rod as a punch, forcing the plug out that end too. All that goop that is liquid will want to squirt out all those holes, though. It will be open and easy to clean after you get all the way through though.

On one of my engines, the plug took off like a rocket when the pressure got too high. I think its in the rafters of my shop somewhere. I just cut another plug from 1/2" rod, scored one side with a chisel so it wouldn"t move around in there and put it in. The cotter keys will keep it from pushing out the end.

Good luck.
Kelvin

I had the same situation with my GB. My problem turned out to be a rocker arm that was plugged up. As I recall, the oil from the rocker shaft enters the rocker arm on the bottom side and flows around to the top where it then heads down, by gravity, to the end of the rocker and ultimately, the valve stem. Remove the rocker arms that are suspect and see what you can do to assure that the oil passage(s) are clear. Prepare to struggle a bit.

It sounds like the oil passages in those rocker arms are plugged. Try swapping with one that oils now & replace the plugged ones if you can't get them cleaned out using a piece of wire, some solvent and compressed air.

Also to add what john said use a cutting torch tip cleaning set start small and work to a bigger size cleaner. They work great for this.
