It will only be a 6 cylinder. MM made no 8 cylinder tractors, to my knowledge.

mnm44,
Tell us more about these experimentals. Is there any documentation about them? What tractor were they based on? G705, G1000, or ??? When were they built? If they were 2 extra cylinders on a 504 that would make them 672 ci in-line 8 cyl engines. Is that true? I'd like to have seen that crankshaft.

It was based on a 706 style chassis my dad was a dealer and they tried to get a locale farmer to take one and test but the fuel consumption numbers scared them off. They were supposed to have been all returned to the factory except a couple that the farmers wouldnt give up. MM had actually sold them and then whent back and rebought them. I am sure you have also heard of the 670 super diesels that were 403 cid. Harrold Jennings used to have an MM service manual that showed a picture of the inj pump for reference and you could see the drop water manifold on the side of the taller blocks right behind it. These had a large crank driven counterwhieght in the oil pan which had a bulge in it making it differnt from other production pieces. The reason for not making it was that it made as much HP as the G900 was rated for and was considerd unnecessary.

Folks,

The in-line 8 story comes around from time to time. It has always been FOAF or other repeated
story. Or confused with the V-8 CAT-powered Whites or Olivers. Names and dates would be a good start. Need specifics here. Would not have been all that
difficult - billet crank and camshaft, append to the crankcase casting. Certainly M-M exp shop was capabile of building such a thing. But in-line 8s have a lot of vibration issues - which is why 6s are so common. Bigger bore and longer stroke are the solution - not 8 holes inline.

Of all the Jensen pictures, no in-line 8s were
photographed. Need to ask around at Rockford show next summer. Maybe still some memory of the design - if it actually happened.

M-M may have built a V-8 power unit of 5-5/16 x 6 at Russellville. A companion to the V-12 of
the same dimensions, and successor to the V-12
of 4-5/8 x 6 (VHD-1210-12A), of which at least one was built and tested in Texas.

Otherwise, guys, thanks for keeping the forum interesting.

I have heard that a collector in PA had a Inline 8 cyl based on something like a GB chassis. I have, with my own eyes looked at a V-1600HD engine, Common crankcase, And it was apart the crank was a forging so it was intended on there being more of them, same blocks and heads as the HD 800 the starter# on the Delco id plate was EXP. It was very interesting. Nothing would suprise me from MM. SOme of the stories these older dealers will tell of things they witnessed is enough to make you scratch you head, LIke the 670 with 2 transmissions!
