MM R Prairie G or Brownish?

A local aquaintance has 2 R's (Both from late 1940's) One is painted prairie gold the other is a light brownish tan color. He claims the brownish color is correct and MM painted tractors(especially R's) that color for 1 year. Everyone around here doubts his credability, although there are no real MM experts in the crowd.

Is there any help for settling this burning question?

Thanks,
Al

I had a ZB, that had bronze paint on the transmission and engine. I found the paint when I was sand blasting, just before the primmer coat.
I never saw any ZB's with bronze paint on them and just discounted to someone experimenting with the paint bucket. proably dosen't help. Good Luck anyways

As far as I know all MM's of the earlier years were all painted prairie gold UNLESS they were for specific applications they may be another color, but all the row crops were the same.

Some of the original Prairie Gold paint weathers to that shade. But it was originally that orange-yellow prairie gold that MM folks are so fond of.

On the other hand, a dealer would probably paint a tractor if he could make a sale. And MM industrials could be had in any color for another $20 or so. (Remember $20 went a lot farther then than it does now.)

another thought: I have heard that some tractors had their paint jobs 'updated' when the new models rolled out. I happen to have a 445 with the 4 star hood decals on it. And I talked to a fellow showing a yellow Avery R who said the dealer re-painted it before it was ever sold.
