Does anyone know when there was a throttle update on the 5 Star or M5 models? Early pictures I have seen just show the adjusting nut on the throttle lever. Both the 5 Star and M5 I have have a throttle like the M602s. Was it a update package? Just curious...

That was not an update on the 5-star tractors. It did have that option on the very last of the M5 and of course carried over to the Jet star three's u302, m602 and newer. I have also seen this set up on some of the G series as well.

I'd like to know too. My Jet2 has the good throttle but my brown Jet, 5-star, and 335 have that crappy friction deal. I'd like to convert!

I bet the correct parts off a late model tractor would fit right on.

One thing if you try to change one-The one (the Later style 'crappy friction deal'-looks like what is on the Jet2, but uses a spring loaded plunger instead of notches.) on my Jet3super had stacked allen setscrews securing it in the steering column. One behind the other. So look out for that if you try to change one.

On the other hand, I am pretty happy with that 'crappy friction deal' on the oldies-335, 445, brown jet, M5, however. And the notches on the jet2 and Big Mo 400 are pretty well worn.

That plastic friction piece was only about $14 when I bought one for the 445 back in the spring.

Another thing: My (Mom's) M5 has a rubber boot on the throttle lever down at the nut on the steering column. Do you think it has been added?

Most of my old klunkers were siezed up or so sloppy they would not hold their position. I grew up on the Jet2 and loved it. I'm sure with a little wrenching I could get the crappy throttle to not be so crappy and more like new. I found the set screw. My 5-star diesel is plain, but my buddies 5-star gas has notches.

Hmmm, rubber boot? I don't recal one on ours, but maybe it should have. I'll check the book.
