I bought a 1951 MM UTU. After unsticking the engine, I've played with it a bit, but can't get the PTO to work. It has a lever coming out of the LH brake housing. I'm guessing it is an M&W quasi-live-PTO deal, but engaging the PTO lever under the seat doesn't seem to do anything.

Is something broken, or am I not doing something right?

Dale

The pto engage lever is just above pto shaft at the rear of the tractor. There is an L shaped rod with another bar or lever over it-most times, at least- to push it back and forth. Pushing it in should lock the shafts together. (But only when the shoulders on the two shafts align. It is not a plate clutch. Only a sliding collar joins the two shafts.)

If the tractor moves O.K., the live pto clutch is working. It only stops the ground drive when the handle is pulled, leaving the transmission turning along with the pto shaft.
