How the tank patch job went

I posted earlier that I was looking for ways to patch a rather large hole (4" X 6") in a gas tank. After serious thought - at least a day or two - I decided to go the JB Weld route. Thought that if I messed it up it would be easier to start over than if I tried to weld or fiberglass it. I found some 22 gauge sheet metal, mallable (softer than spring steel and the same strength as the original), at a local Ace Hardware store. I then cut and shaped the piece 2" oversize of the hole, ground both surfaces of contact, and clamped the piece in place for two days after applying the JB Weld. This is my first experience with JB Weld, and while I'll hold my endorsement for the product for a couple of years just to see if it holds up, I am very satisfied with the initial results. Too bad I can't do the scanned picture thing for all to see, but it looks like a pretty good job. Now to finish the "body work" part and get it painted.
