Dose anyone know if the transmissions with light weight oil had any problems with the oil not protecting the gears in the transmission after they have set for a long time. The reasion I ask is I've been trying to get a G 1000 Vista bought for the past four years it only has 1500 hrs but has set the last 20 to 25 years and I'm not sure if the power tran oil would continue to cover the gears like the old heaver oils.

Thanks,

Jeremy Fiorelli

Jeremy,
I think you'll be alright, as long as the unit has been sealed, corrosion should not be a problem, condensation would be the most likely problem, but the water should settle to the bottom of the case, you should be able to tell how much water is in it if you pull the drain plug and let out just enough fluid to get just the water out and not oil, If you do this before it moves, it will not get mixed back in. I think gears and roller bearings of that size are a lot more forgiving than most mechanical parts if they were coated with even a light oil at one time.
