I finally got the spindles loosened up and back in my M670 Super ( 1966 model ). Steering works fine but it turns farther to the right than to the left (about 6 to 8 inch difference). The guy I had gotten it from said they had a steering problem on it and had it fixed. I think they had a leak in the seal on the bottom of the steering housing ( main shaft underneath ). Im guessing when they put it together they got it out of time. Is there an easy way to line it up and get it in time. I have to take it apart anyway because they didnt take up the endplay in the shaft.

NO NO,NO, Don't take out out the steering cyl. Lines, seals and all that goes with it. If they replaced the vertical shaft like you said, they got it one tooth off when they placed the housing assy back in. If it's a wide front, take the wedge plate steering assy out of the vertical shaft, If it's a narrow front take the pedistal off. Drain the lube out of the steering housing. Drop the lower plate out of the housing. Be careful it is heavy and you don't want to damage that new seal. Turn the steering wheel all the way from one way to the other. Count the number of turns of the wheel. Then turn back half way. That will be straight ahead. You might want to mark your steering wheel and do it more than once to be sure you are in the middle. Then install the vertical shaft and housing plate with the wedge in the straight ahead position. Run the cap screws in snug and double check, turn the stering wheel both ways and check that it contacts the stop in both drections.

Alan, sounds like you'll have to remove the steering piston and re-install like the IT manual says. If it's in there a tooth out of sync it can really make a big difference.
