I have a 65 M670. I took the steering assist valve appart because i wanted to clean it and get steering both ways. I talked to a guy and he said they usualy only work one way. Now that I got it back together, it turns to the right on its own but won't turn back. I changed all o-rings, had to take some emory cloth to inside to clean carbon out,( had it in a ultra sonic cleaner and someone else put a piston in with it) so I don't know if i took off too much with the cloth. any suggestions?

the tractor use to work by turing easy to the right but hard to the left when not moving. from what i was told that is normal for that system. After i took it appart something got messed up. I know it is in the valve its self.

I am sure this is not the problem because it steers one way but we had a spindle seizing up inside the tube, and for some reason it would steer one way but would squeel the steering belt the other way. We thought we had a failing pump or steering sector, until we figured out it was the spindle. We finally got the spindle freed up and greased and all is well. This was on a MM g1000.

Is the valve you cleaned the one that bolts on to the side of the steering unit? Not sure but possibly a bad O ring on the steering piston? Is the valve getting oil to both sides? Is it working any different that it did before you took it apart? I had rebuilt the one on my M5. They can be a fun one to get to work.

I have a IT, and a full 670 service book. i did not find how to correct it. I used it to try and fix it the first time.

Invest in an IT manual for the 670 or borrow one from someone. It will tell you how to correct the problem with much more clarity than I can explain it. Good luck!
