I have a pair of 4209 heads that I am planning on getting tested. Where do they generally crack? It almost looks to me that looking through the intake port there is possibly a crack from intake valve to intake valve...hope Im just seeing things....

hello.having worked with a bunch of MM guys they all said ALLWAYS idle the tractor a long time, before shutting down!! Split blocks seem worse. Also, NEVER use the torque amp.....untill once around the field. I've used this on all my stuff and it has worked good all these yrs. BobMn

Probably depends on what caused the crack.

I have heard some MM heads tend to crack between the valves in the chamber. I am thinking heat/low water causes most combustion chamber cracks.

I had a GE30E on a UTS that cracked in an exhaust port. It may have frozen.

Bought a 220 lp engine out of a U302 in a salvage yard once that had a crack between all 4 of the valve guides on the top of each head. Don't know what caused it.

It's been my experience if you are "seeing things" like a crack in a Minnie head - you truly are seeing things! In other words, it's bad...

I am not sure which number heads the 504 diesels have but a couple tractors we bought years ago had cracks between the two valves by the combustion chamber or what ever its called. Had a guy weld a few of them and as long as they were not run hard held up, always heard overheating the engine is what caused the crack. If its not getting compression in the water i would think you should be ok. Don"t have any experiance with non diesel MM"s except for an M5, but have never heard problems with gas or lp heads, neighbor ran a 97 massey with the MM lp engine in for years and he never did have to open it up, ran smooth and clean year in and year out.
