I am building a 1956 UTS special for pulling. I would like to keep this tractor on propane as it came stock. I plan to install a 403 rotating assembly this fall. My question is this; What would be the best regulator unit and LP carburetor to use for this application? I have a set of 4206 heads that I plan to use also. Any help from you LP pullers would be greatly appreciated.

Hi What will be the resulting compression ratio with the 4206 heads on top of the 403 short block. I like low compression. With low compression the old 403 will lug down to nothing smoothly. The other way it will run against itself the last 3/4 of the pull. First don't use a Century. Many think this is the best thing around. The load side of the carb doesn't engage til the engine is at like 90 % of load. An Ensign is a cheap option but I don't think it would be easy to find on big enough. That leaves the last option: Impco. You should be able to get a new one at the local LP distributor. Complement it with a Vaporizer off a old g-705 or 1000 and you have plenty of fun. One more tip, set the load jet with the engine running on one cylinder. With a straight pipe running dimly lite at nite you should have a 2" flame sticking out the stack, The competion will hate you. Your 4206 head will make a 10.85:1 compression ratio. A bit high for me. If you decide to use these head be sure to polish the chamber to a mirror type finish. I'd select 4210 or 4213, which is what a LP GB used. LP is difficult to fire. Use at least a MSD-6. The ignition timing for best torque is 6 to 8 degrees BTDC. You know it burns clean. Well it also burns quick. Use a oil bath air cleaner too. When you get all this together you'll now you did it right when you can run 3rd gear in the 5500 lbs.

Was wondering why the recommendation for oil bath air cleaner?

The oil bath air cleaner make just enough differential to make the air valve in the carb open.
