I Need to Find a set of rings for a Minniapolis Moline GB Diesel.
425 CI 6 cylinder. 5 rings to a piston, 2 compression 3/32, 1 scraper 3/32, 2 cast iron one piece oil 3/16. I need rings for all 6 standard pistons. I got a set of rings from Hastings, but they have one three piece oil ring in place of the one of the cast oil rings, and after getting it running it blew a quart of oil out the exhaust in about 5 minutes, and would miss on several cylinders. I have one piston set of New Old Stock rings and when I compared them to the Hastings rings there were major differances in them. the Old Stock compression rings measured .209 wide and gave .025 end gap in the cylinder, which is max for these engines. The Hastings rings measured .193 wide and gave .033 end gap. The Old Stock cast oil ring measured .172 wide and gave .025 end gap, the one cast oil ring hastings sent measured .154 wide and gave .033 end gap. The rings I took out measured the same as the new Hastings rings, except they had worn enough to give .130 end gap on the oil rings and .065 end gap on the compresion rings. Before re-ringing, it had low compression and started hard, but used no oil. With new Hastings rings it had better compression but started hard because the cylinders were full of oil, and it blew smoke and oil out the exhaust. Yes the rings were installed correctly. My cylinders measure 4.253 to 4.254. So if you know of another source of rings could you please let me know. I have one set of New Old Stock, if I had five more I would be in buisness. The Minniapolis Moline part # on my pistons is 10A3650 and they are aluminum. The MM part # for the rings is 10R208. . Dan Vandehey 503-366-1726 Rainier, Oregon djv@ados.com
