I have a Minneapolis Moline Star 5, the hi & lo range isn't working properly. It works fine in hi range but in lo range it constantly slips or stops even though it's in gear. The tractor is in mint condition, runs excellantly and given tractor prices today I am opting that it will be worth getting it repaired. So I need a shop that is in the central Mississippi area that can handle such a task. I am open to suggestion & options.

Your amplitorque may just need adjustment. Here is how to adjust.
When the amplitorque lever is pushed forward - there should be a distinct snap heard. It should take you some effort to snap it over-center. My service manual call for about 55-60lbs of force at the end of the handle.

If it needs adjustment, pull the lever back to the low or underdrive position and remove the small cover plate from the right side of the trans. housing. Then turn the clutch assy. (you will see this through the opening) until you see the spring loaded lock pin come into view.

Depress the lock pin and turn the notched adjusting ring clockwise until the pin engages the next hole. Do this until you get the desired feel.

Now, it is also possible that the "sprag" assy. is worn out on your unit too. That you wouldn't know until you got it apart.

You might also try leaving a message on the MM website at "www.minneapolis-moline.com". There are alot of good guys on that site that can maybe help you out.

When the A.T. slips in the low side it can be adjusted till the cows come home, this only works when the high slips, maybe. When low slips the tractor has to be split. 5 Stars don't have a sprague, they a have spring and roller arrangement. Sitting in the seat, pulling the lever both systems feel almost the same. Early units normaly cost less to repair. Any questions call us at 920 295 3278 Thanks and good luck Dale
