I have found a MM M5 with loader for sale for $3500 . the serial # shows it was made in 1962. The tractor seems in good condition and the 336-4 engine was re-done approx 10 years ago. It doesn't have and 3 point hitch but it sounds like this could be a future project. Any comments or things I should look for when I take it for a "test drive"?? Thanks

Seems about right on the price- I've seen several M-5's in the $2,000 to $2,500 range recently, and the loader adds value. The M-5 is a good, powerful tractor. As to adding 3 point- unless it has rockshafts now, I think you would have to basically change the whole rearend and hydraulic system to add it. The M-5's I have seen have been without 3 point, but they had no provision for adding it without major surgery.

If you happen to come across any M5 parts or parts tractors, would you drop me a line! Not always easy to keep up with all available resources.

Thanks...Ralph

This comment made about retrofit to a 3-point is completely valid. To the best of my knowledge, the M5 was offered with two completely different hydraulic systems...one supporting the 3-point hitch system and dual-single hydraulics; the other had "no" 3-point "with" dual-double acting hydraulics. The rear end is quite different, including the hydraulic controls system. I have one of each of these tractors...can fax you copies of the parts book for reference if you like.
