Could someone please straighten me out on a problem I have with a MM ZA tractor.

I would like to know what material the gasket is made of that goes between the base and the two blocks, if thats what they're called. I have an oil leak and it looks like a part of the gasket might be fell out.

Thanks, Sonny

lf the gasket slip out its means that the block was not pulled down and the block is moving.[DO NOT PAINT INBETWEEN THE BLOCKS ] .Replace the gaskets and torque down the bolts to 55ftp .

If you still have your old gasket spray it with aluminun paint and put it togather while the paint is still wet. This is an old tried and true way to reuse old head gaskets.

If you are going to all the trouble of putting new gaskets make sure you put in new freeze plugs. Also check for scaling in the blocks and heads. While you have plugs out it might not hurt to take a pressure washer and clean it out. Just my two cents.

If you are going to replace that gasket, you may want to consider buying a full overhaul gasket kit and do the rest as well (if you have not already). A full kit can be found for $75 or so. It may save you some time later if other gaskets start to go, and since you have to tear the cylinder blocks off anyways it may be the best time to do this. If you are going to be painting it up, or have, it sure would suck to have oil leaking over your good paint job. I don't remember, but maybe you could buy the gasket you need seperately if you dont want to do the whole thing.

Where can a complete set be bought for $75.?

Thanks,

Sonny

I am not sure of the material. I removed blocks off an old Z and they looked like some of that felt type stuff, and not cork. I found the gasket kit at Champion Auto for $75. I think my NAPA store was about $3 more.

Sonny, the base gaskets were originally made of cork gasket material. I believe you can get a complete gasket set from NAPA stores. I don't remember the price but $75 is probably in the ballpark.
