The ms tsx fits the u- series of tractors, the tsx-693 fits the 5 star gas but why is it that a u and a 5star have the same engine, cubes ect but the 5star makes more power? The only differance I can find is the carbs. But the manifolds are the same i.e intake and exhaust, that is in a late model u,ub,5star replacement manifold. Were is the power coming from, they changed the carb for some reason and I havn.t been able to locate specs on the cfm's,venturi size, ect ect ect. Like I said before any help would be appriciated. Thanks I Redman.

why dont you just put the differnt carb on your tractor and see if the horse power increasses, if it does i guess it would be the carb huh? if not maybe it was just all in how the power went from the engine out the back.

The reason that would be, I would have to buy a carb either used and rebuild it or a rebuilt unit..... Hey does anybody have a place to buy used carbs from????? If so drop me a line. Its not in the rear or trasmission that I do know for a fact. I have that trans and diff in other tractors and other than the fact it has a high/low which robs power to boot. Thanks for the help and info Shawn. I Redman

Got a salvage yard North of me that has a shed full of carbs. Usually get 35 to 50 each. Probably doesn't have many for MM lots of IH Allis

I.R.,

I'm sure red dog is right, a combination of things give the h.p. boost. The little R's had four different carburetors over the years and the only significant difference was in 1952 when they upped h.p. by 15% by upping compression, speeding up the engine and putting a bigger jet in the carb. It would be my guess that the only significant difference in the carbs on a U or 5 Star would be in the size of the jets and or nozzles. An article I have introducing the then new 5 Star says horsepower increase was due to increase in compression. I think we all know it was due to more than that.

I will almost agree with you but my neighbor has one with the same heads and I think the cams are the same I said I think don't quote me on it. And I don't believe the 200rpms is going to do ya for 15-20Hp. You can call me full of horse manure but I don't quiet buy it. Thats why I am trying to get the carb thing figured out. There are a handfull of us guys in this area that are really into molines and the heads I know are not it because I don't have 4.3-1 heads or anything rediculous as that and alot of u's came from the factory with some pretty spicey heads so to speak. Like I said I'm not saying you full of it but there's got to be more to it than that. Thanks for the info Reddog. By the way were are ya from? I Redman

Ok before I get jumped on by you guys the correct differential between the two is 13hp on the drawbar and 12 on the belt pulley. I.E. UTU 36hp on drawbar and 42 belt. 5 star 49 on the drawbar and 54hp on the belt.
