I took a look at this tractor this morning and found the serial number plate. It is a UTI #336264H. Could any one please provide me with information about this tractor or where to find it. I have not seen any reference to the "UTI" designation and wonder if the "I" means, "Industrial?" It has a wide front end too. It's a great looking tractor.

Thanks, Zman

Zman,
You've found a 1947 UTI. The I stands for industrial. It probably has a heavy duty front axle as most UTI do. The front tires look like they belong on a big truck more than a farm tractor. $1200 is fair price to pay for a UTI if its in good running condition, the sheet metal is in restorable condition (hood sides still present and not all rotted out), and it has a good manifold. The manifold and hood sides are usually the first things to go. Reproduction manifolds are available though they're not cheap. If it's a solid tractor with good tires I'd buy it.

Thanks Brian! It doesn't have the hood sides but everything else is still there including fenders. The guy who has it says it'll start right up and he hand cranks it. It may not have a battery or the starter is messed up. I don't know which. A friend told me to loosen the oil drain plug a little to make sure there isn't water in the oil from a bad head gasket. I am in the process of barganing with the owner's son but I will check it out more closely and hear it run before I write the check. The tires are good although one rear is flat so we are looking at reducing the price in order to accomodate getting the tire fixed.

I can't wait to sport a little "Prairie Gold" as Mr. MM says I should call it on my farm.

Thanks for checking this out for me. What is a really good MM site to visit.

Thanks, Jon.

Zman, The best MM site on the web is at:
www.jetstar.minneapolis-moline.com
It's discussion forum gets 10 times the activity that ytmag does. The site is loaded with serial number info and lots of links to other MM sites.
The drain plug idea is a good one. You'll have to check around for some good hood sides. They're getting harder to come by. Good Luck!
Brian
