My son has an early 1949 utu with a glass jar air breather with a bail. Was there any particular reason for having this type? He would also like to know if he can get a another bail for it. His tractor has power steering, but needs new bearings for worm gear in the front bolster. So far we haven't been able to find any. He would also like see a picture or know the paint scheme of the tractor. Any help would be appreciated.

Tom,

It sounds like someone put a pre-cleaner from an M Farmall on your U. It was an option for the old M's and H's, I've seen a zillion of them. The bearings on the worm gear shaft are just tapered roller bearing, you can get them at any bearing house or even NAPA. Hope this helps.

Jim
