I need to pick a few brains here. I bought a 5 Star gas last summer. The motor was in a box. I bored it out and put high comp aluminum pistons in it. I basically fixed what was worn and replaced it. I had the carb rebuilt by a friend of mine who rebuilds them for pullers. When you have the throttle wide open, or the tractor is under a very small load (driving up a small hill), it surges real bad. The governor opens and shuts causing this. The governor seems to be set right. What do I need to do? The tractor was setting for 14 years in a barn. I did not take apart the governor when I rebuilt the engine. I hope this is an easy fix! Thanks for any input.

Matt,
I just bought a MM and it is 445 and does same thing. I suggest you take a look at the springs on the gov. I suspect that is what is wrong with mine. I was hipped to it by the guy whom owned it prior to me. He said the spring was worn, you can hold your hand on it and stop the surge. I have not had a chance to check it out yet haven't even got to go pick it up yet. good luck.

Matt, your 445 governor has no springs inside, if it's not working right, replace it and do it soon, otherwise???? We have new ones here. We buy more junk MM's of this size for this reason than any other. This a great engine but they do not like erratic rpm's. Dale 920 295 3278

How hard is it to rebuild a governor? While the local AC dealer carry the parts? I have been buying all my parts from Welters Farm Supply in Verona, Mo. These are a great bunch of people, but a 5 hour drive away.

That is how I get my parts from them. It is just frustrating when you go to the AC dealer and you say the words M&M, and they laugh at you. Those guys and gals at Welters are really good people to work with!!!

That is because we are an allis dealer not a minneapolis moline dealer. We can`t get you parts. We don`t have the parts books. Agco only wants us to sevice what we sold before the merger. If we want more then we have to "buy" a francise. Just because we have a moline and we are agco dealer does not mean we can get parts. We get moline parts from Welters too. Yes I do remember you
