I am looking at several nice U/UB tractors however they are LP models and I have no practical experience with this. It would seem if this had worked well it would still be in routine use today. What about the safety of these antique LP tanks? Any information would be appreciated.

Just a little info that I found on the LP tanks. As long as the # and codes on the tank are still readable and there is no major rust pits it is possible to get the tanks certified. I am working on a 1954 ZB LP power system now and are in the same boat you are. I hope this helps.

The LPG is not really that different then a gas
model. The main problem in my area is that some
LP dealers will not fill my tank without a dated
DOT tag, so now I fill my own from a nurse tank.
Most tractors that run on LPG are very clean on
the inside and produce more power. Also at shows
they draw lots of interest. The reason that LPG,
and gasoline for that matter, isn't used any more
is diesel fuel. Diesel is far more economical in
both large and small engines. I would buy the LP
tractor and you will find out how good it really
is compared to gasoline.
