I'm considering driving 200 miles to go look at a UB with loader for sale in northern MN. Need a workhorse wide front tractor for our lot up north. I've searched the net and can't find a picture of a UB. Can someone send me a picture of a 50's vintage wide front gas UB? Is this a good tractor for brush hogging and hauling logs, etc.? Any drawbacks to this model?

Thanks,
Dan from St. Paul

UB's are a solid tractor, good engine and drive train. I think it would make a good loader tractor as you sit up high on the platform, good visability. The only concern I might have is the hydraulic control unit. The hydraulic pumps were good on these but the control units did not have hold valves. They relied on the MM hydraulic cylinders which have the hold valves built in. Most people that put loaders on older MM plumb in their own control valves to bypass the factory ones. I may be wrong on that, but I think the UB uses the same control unit as a U. I put my U on a disk and it would lift it, but it would not stay up. Some one on the MM web site told me to get a MM cylinder and try that and it fixed the problem. Also the UB does not have a 3 point hitch, unless someone added it, so that will limit your selection of brush mowers. As far as dragging out trees it should have plenty of power. KS
P.S. If you decide not to buy it please let me know, I have a friend that is looking for a UB with wide front to restore.

Thanks very much for that info. Someone else sent me some pictures of a UB also, so I have the details I need now. Yes, I will write back if I don't buy it. Much appreciated.
