Father in Law recently purchased B1 10100671. Doesn't appear to be working in low range. Making funny noise when he tries. He says it runs way too fast even in first and seems to freewheel down hills. On the hydraulics there are two hoses for hookups but can't figure where the return is. Read someplace the hydraulics is the worst thing on this tractor. Please advise. Thanks

Low Range Slipping Problem: It sounds like the rollers and hub are worn to the point they will no longer engage properly. This is a common problem that requires the splitting of the tractor, removal of the entire torque assembly, replacing the rollers and springs, and reconditioning or replacement of the torque hub. Free Wheeling: In low-range, MM's will free wheel when going down hill by design. When going down hill, always have the torque lever in the forward position (high-range) to use the engine as a brake. This works even if low-range is giving you problems. When the torque is in good working condition, it will also act as a "Hill Holder" device. When stopped while going up hill with the torque in high-range, the torque will stop the tractor from rolling backwards as long as you leave the tractor in a forward gear.
Hydraulic Hoses: Assuming your tractor is eguiped with a 3 point hitch hydraulic system. Your system has two levers and four ports for remote hydraulic cylinders. The ports are capable of running double acting cylinders so there is no designation between sending or returning. When using a cylinder on this tractor, you have to use the ports that are intended to work together. The ports are paired together as uppers and lowers. Meaning the top two ports work together on one cylinder and the bottom two ports on a second cylinder. The two levers inboard of the 3 pt. lever operate the remote cylinders. These tractors do have a hydraulic system issues. They were under powered but if they are not leaking and the pump is in good condition they work fine for most work.

Hope this helps!
