I can't keep my head gasket from blowing in my gas GTB. I replaced it during my restoration, ran for an hour or two, then I drained water out to install anti-freeze and it blew right away. I replaced it again and it blew again right away. I am now tearing the engine down to make sure everything is ok before I try again. Problem is that I can't see any reason why the head gasket will not hold. I rebuilt the water pump during restoration, rad flow fine, new thremostat, doesn't have time to get hot, torqueing heads according to the book. Bought my gaskets from local AGCO dealer, is there others to use? Any ideas or help would be great. Thanks. Chris

Two things I need to know, what kind of fuel you are burning and what is the number of your cylinder heads? Let us have that information and we can tell you why you head gaskets would hold.
My guess is the heads are too high of compression and you need to make sure your AGCO man is selling you GE-29B head gaskets and you torque them to at least 140 ft lbs.

Its a gas burner...just running regular gasoline from the gas station. Cyl head is orginal and are GE-30A heads. My book shows to torque the camshaft bolts to 120 lbs and exhaust manifold side to 100 lbs....should I torque them more? I didn't have head or blocks check out the first go around, as I didn't do anything to the engine except change the head gasket. I plan on having them checked out this time...hope I get it fixed as it is frustrating when I can't 'see' anything wrong. Thanks for your help. Chris
