Ampmeter shows negative charge on z

My son has a Z?? with a woods loader on it. He jump started it this summer and now it will run but the amp gauge show it is charging on the negative side. It runs but it doesn't charge the battery. It wasn't charging to begin with and I took the top off the voltage regulater and messed with the points. It charged just fine for a few days. Now it is back to not charging. Thanks from

Sounds like he put the jumper cables on the wrong terminals and polarized the generator the oppsite way.

Your manual has the correct way to polarize the generator, and then it will charge the correct way.

If you need more info,.. E-Mail me with generator make and numbers and I will get you the info on polarizing your generator.
