From my experience the price varies a lot--depends on what you're willing to pay and what the seller is willing to take of course but sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you just want it and you get screwed. Here's my experience:

MM UTU --good sheet metal, good wheels, bad rear tires, cracked block, cracked head (not on the same bank of course) $900 (I wanted it)

MM UTU--excellent sheet metal, two mismatched (in size) rear tires, leaking radiator but engine runs good. $550 (seller wanted to get rid of it)

MM UTU--rough, bad tires in front, rear tires okay, mismatched and flat but with lots of tread, sheet metal so so but not great, carburetor missing, stuck $200 (seller wanted to dispose of, I didn't need it but may come in handy sometime)

So there you have it--3 sales and prices from $200 to $900.

I am a little irritated by the other posts. I think alot depends on the tractor, does it have good rims? How is the metal? There is very little metal being made for Molines. Is the tractor complete? When I am looking at tractors I decide wether I am going to have something there in the end, you might buy a u that the motor is locked and rebuild the motor and have maybe a grand or so in it, or you could go buy one with a motor that runs but you don't know anything about it. personally I would buy stuck U's all day long for that (367.00) if the metal and rims were good, you could put a couple hundred bucks a piece in a rim alone. Don't forget location. If the tractor is close then that shoud have some weight on your decision. Every U that you haul to the scrap yard makes the next one more expensive/valuable and then they are gone forever.

Well depends, I happen to agree with you, but the fact is we weren't given anything more to work with than that it is a stuck U with bad tires. Just have to assume it is a run-of-the-mill mid-40's to early '50's UTU, and that the rest of the tractor is well worn. Sort of like asking what a 1957 Chevy is worth. Well, it could be a beat up 4-door with a six cylinder stick shift or a restored convertible with factory fuel injection and four speed. People need to give more info when asking values on these forums. Heck, maybe he found a UDLX, it's a U isn't it?

I realize that I may have been vague. Here is a better description. The rims, fenders, and grill are nice. The sheet metal in the exaust side is bad even up into the hood. The decal is still on simply shows U. What I am concerned most about is someone welded a bracket to the side of the block on the left side. It is light duty and looks like it could be cut off and ground down, but I just hate to see steel welded to the cast block. I am afraid it may be weak of crack in that place after the bead is ground down flat. up side, It would not show if repainted. manifold is bad. tires are up and about 50% but weather cracked. I have never had any MMs but this may be my first.

Jeff,

The Price Man is a smart _ss but pretty well nailed down the value of a tractor as you describe it.
