I have an M5 gas and am having trouble with the carb setting --- does anyone know the proper setting for the low speed and the high speed.

Also altho I have polarized the generator [put a jumper momentarily from armature terminal to the battery terminal, on the regulator] when I close the battery points on the regulator the amp guage shows full discharge. What can be the problem?

Also when I look at the list of serial numbers for this tractor mine is lower than the beginning number in 1960 [presumably the first year for the M5 Gas] -- mine is 16902733 -- what is the explanation?

Hope someone can help me, thanks.

If you are manually closing those points with the engine off, they open a direct drain on the battery through the generator. Not only that, but in some cases, the coil in the regulator will hold the points closed until the battery runs down.

Lamont,
The serial number you've given is for the engine. Please check the right side of the trans housing for the tractor serial number plate.
