I'm considering rebuilding my 445. I was wondering if anyone out there has rebuilt one lately? I have't found a complete kit so I figure it will have to be pieced out.Are the cylinders sleeved? The motor was stuck when I got it but now it's free. I have a couple of bent pushrods. I have already pulled the heads and the cylinders don't look too bad. If the cost is astromnomical I will just do a valve job and button it back up. I have rebuilt a few V-8's in the past but this is my first tractor engine. If anyone can give me some idea of costs for parts, machine work or advice I would sure welcome it.Thanks very much.

I have read with interest the replies that you have gotten in response to your message. I have a 445 engine in a tractor that is in general farm use and I have had no problems getting parts when needed, be it from a dealer or general parts store. I do live in a farming area rather than urban or metropoliton area so that may help. Also there are several tractor junk yards that are of good help and they are enough cheaper to warrent the drive for parts. Rebuilding an engine is usually cheaper than replaceing the whole tractor and it is then good for years of service verses buying a garden tractor for to much money and short life expectancy. Good luck.

Richard I have just recently acquired a 445 in very rough condition the engine is not stuck and was told the tractor has run very little since rebuild due to failure to replace rear main seal If having a parts tractor would help you contact me I would sell parts or whole tractor at a very reasonable price

445s are great tractors just finished my third a couple of months ago. On all three I have spent about $1200 each. If you need a valve job dont buy new valves from agco take the heads to your machine shop and tell them to replace with small block chevy valves the exhaust is the same dimensions but the intake in the 445 will be smaller. They can make the hole big enough to fit the chevy valve for intake also which will gain you some hp. Also the mm springs will only weigh about 60 pounds so replace them with chevy springs (around 100 pounds. The keepers and everything match up. I have never found any pistons other than Moline that will work so if you have to go .040 over youll have to buy oversize. If it's already .040 over your only option is to sleave it or get U302 pistons and rods. This is a jump from 3.500 bore to 3.750 bore x 5 inch stroke. With these mods you should dyno around 62 hp.

I just rebuilt one this summer. Push rods from agco are $50 a piece. Fortunatley i didnt have to bore it out. All together(rings, bearings, manifold, gaskets, valves, guides, keepers) was about a $1000 bucks.

Richard,
I'm not aware of a complete kit. The block is not sleeved so oversize pistons are the only way to go if the bore is too bad. I would think if the motor was stuck at one time you might want to put a light hone back in the cylinders and put in new rings. But its just my thoughts. I was told oversize pistons could be obtained from NAPA for somewhere in the $60-70 range a piece but I have not verified this. You should be able to get a gasket set from NAPA also. Engine bearings are available from Federal Mogul and rings are available from F-M or Hastings I know and probably from several other sources. If you don't have any parts places nearby try Welters Farm Supply in Missouri. Their # is 417-498-6496. They were a Moline dealer and can still get many parts from AGCO. Good luck!

Brian

Richard, I am rebuilding a 4star, which has the same motor. Had to buy the parts separate, cost of parts alone is around $600. Hope it's worth it in the end !! jjw
