I found what appears to be a 1952 GTB. The serial # is 01604782. The ID tag only reads 'G' so I'm not for sure. Can anyone confirm this? It's an LP model. Is it worth anything for restoration purposes? Seemed to be all there save for the lights. Good looking tractor. Even in it parked condition it looks like it has more horsepower than my John Deere B, which is running.

Your GTB is probably an LP conversion, as by 1952 the G LP's were named GTC and had a separate serial number grouping. It will be worth your time and effort to restore the tractor. If that GTB hiccups it will blow that JD B away.

Thanks for the information. It's really nice looking tractor, but not mine. Now for the hard part - convincing my wife that I 'need' this tractor.

I figured the John Deere comment would be appreciated by a few folks.

I have been told that all gtb's were originally
gasoline. I have two gtbs', one is a gas and one
is a lp conversion. The conversions were usually
done pretty well in my opinion. The gtb had
brakes at the ends of the axles as opposed to
haveing them on the side of the trans, which
visually is much different than a gb, also the gb
has big wheatland dust fenders, the gtb has
clamshell fenders.

You've got a 1952 GTB. It was not uncommon for Moline to just put G or U or Z or R on their tractors of that vintage. In my opinion if its all there its worth restoring. The GTB had a different front axle than the later GB among other details.

The early "Gs" did only have "G" on the serial number plate. I do not know the reason for this. My dad looked a long time before he found one only marked "G" for his collection. To my knowledge they are the same as the GBs. I would like to hear what anyone else might know. Our G is one of my favorate tractors in our collection because I have spent so much quality time with my hands inside of its engine.
