Looking to purchase a 50's model, Moline, LP powered.
Don't know much about the LP tractors.
Can anyone help?

Thanks.

LP is a good fuel. The LP five stars arn't a power house. I think a 336 would help tones. Mine is going to have a 336. Maybe it would be able to pull the rake. The five stars 3ed gear is the same as the 602's 4th. Fourth in a five star is nearly 12 MPH but don't expect to pull anything.

We start all of our's on liquid all the time. You have to have a good electrical system and a good battery with some cold cranking amps to start them when it gets very cold. That long narrow battery they came out of the factory with is a good thing to throw away and replace with a real battery.

One more thing you need to know. Use a low ash lp oil.

Good luck

Moline's were in my opion the top tractor for LP power. LP is a powerful fuel very clean burning with little carbon, thus little engine wear. Just be sure you change oil as with any other engine even though it doesn't look dirty. The one draw back in some areas is getting service on lp fuel systems. Also with out a pump fuel transfer can be slow on some days. If engine is in good shape Lp starts very good in cold weather. Start on vapor and run on vapor till tractor is good and warm. Feel regulator to see if it is warmed up before switching to liquid. If not needing full power as in heavy tillage you can run only on vapor.
