I have two shellers, a model e ser # 496298 and a model 1200 ser# 38506610. I wonder if anyone knows how old they would be. I have a neighbor with a model 1210 and it looks to be alot newer. Where 1210's replacements for 1200's or where they made at the same time?

I know they made 1210's in 1975 because my dad bought a new red one right off the truck (still in the crate) and the neighbor bought a new yellow one (assembled from the dealership). I also talked to someone who said that they made shellers in batches, not in a continous mannner. I know that the last batch they made were red and said WHITE on them, so if this is all true and my dad bought a red one in 75, that has to be the last year they were made. (anybody know anything different please let me know)

Guys, MM corn shellers have been around at least since the '40's and even before the war. Lots of these big E machines were old and worn out by 1960. I bought my first one in '65 and it was a rusty junkpile then. Took lots of fixing, but it went on to do plenty of custom shelling for years. The older ones had all chain drive, except the fan belt. Later ones used V belts throughout, such as the 1200 model. The one I have now is old and has link-chain on all the drive systems. It's from the '40's, perhaps just after the war.
Good drags, and the special ductile iron chain used in them is getting harder to come by. A good clean painted and WORKING machine, with drags is still worth $1000 or more.
Many are still shelling corn in the country, so they are in demand.

My dad and uncle had a 1200 sheller and powered it with a 4020 JD, with the drag level full you could make that tractor beller out the smoke, they said the sheller worked best when loaded full of corn.

I have an Operator's Manual for a 1200 Shellmaster dated 1959. The original owner of this manual penciled in Serial No. 38506561 and a date Feb 29, 1960.

Farmer Bill,

As far as I know the 1210 was the replacement for the 1200. Also, I believe they were all 1960's vintage. What I do know is that they will flat out shell corn. Dad usually had a fella with an IHC truck mounted JD sheller shell for us. One year he had a fella with a pull type MM sheller (I assume a 1200)powered by a JD 730D do the shelling. What a difference!

Farmer Bill,
Your model E sheller is from 1948. My serial number list compiled from Moline bulletins does not list the 1210 sheller. I believe its newer than my list as it only goes up to 1957.

I just bought a nice model E machine for $250, with 3 drags and the incline drag. The MM stencils are still on it, and it doesn't have a dent in it anywhere. It had to have been shedded most of it's life, but has stood outside the last few years as it's getting rusty. After some minor repairs, it'll be ready for shelling out our big Iowa style double crib, and two other cribs.
We farm in central Minnesota and grow corn and soybeans.

Continuing the story here:
I replaced all the chain on the sheller and did some repairing, as well as updating some things, and we did shell out the east side of the crib. Now have all repairs made and it's ready for new paint, but we now need to shell out the west side of the crib so the paint will wait, for now. The sheller worked perfect. No trouble at all, and load after load of clean shelled corn in the truck.
Moisture was 13.1 and test weight was 57.3 at the elevator in town.
Anyone sending me an E-mail will get a nice picture of the sheller by return E-mail.

I know this post is old, but I'd like to take you up on your offer of a picture of the MM sheller. Thanks, Kurt

Howdy all,
We bought a used MM Sheller ['D', I believe - we don't have it any more,] in the late '40s - early '50s to shell seed corn - not sure where that operator's manual is... the sheller did duty for a local elevator after they had a fire in the early 70s {?} now it is up in N Indiana still shelling as far as I know.

Probably powered w/ a Farmall 'M' or such

The 1200 series came later than all this.

I do remember you could get awfully tired shoveling corn to it!

I enjoy the chat!
