Ok I need some help here.I have MM model U that is as faras I know all original including the cast wheels. I pulled it in a small loacl pull last yerand it ws up in the 7000 lb class. Of course the tires have water in them so that accounts for alot. It really didn't pull as well as I thought it would so I am thinking it is in needs of a good tuneup or something. now before this gets out of hand let me clarify something. I have no intention if making a hot rod out of it or anything. Just want to get the most out of a stock tractor that I can. I had talked to a man who pulls on like it ( with alot more done to it) and he said just getting everything timed and tuned makes a big difference. He was also talking about the different heads that where available for them. How do I tell which head I have? I believe he said therewere low com. mid comp. and high compression ones. Also what would be the best timing settings and stuff like that to start with. I do plan on taking the water out and MAYBE changing rims to get it lighter as I know the ycan get down to 5000 but that is a bare tractor. Since I show alot more than I pull I don't really care to do that. If anyone can help I would appreciate it alot. eiterh post a reply or email. thanks!!!

The best thing you can do for your tractor is get that fluid out of your tires. If you pull it or just show it that stuff needs to come out. You should be able to get your tractor to 6000# easily and 5500# should be possible with out removeing much if anything.

What year is your U and is it solid block or split block. What front end does it have what size rear tires do you have? How high is your drawbar is it orignal. Anything else you can tell us about it like the head numbers and what fuel it burns.

If you have a split block engine your head numbers are on the head the oppsite side of the manifold between the spark plugs and should be 10A42?? or GE30?. If you have a solid block engine your head number is under the valve cover in the middle of the head, those numbers should be KE282? If you want to know the compression of your heads I have a page with the head info at Link The GE30? heads are at the bottom of the page I have some info for the KE282 heads but I don't have them on that page yet.

thanks for the reply! some more info. it is the split head motor and I believe the GE30 number sounds right. I will have to check for sure tomorrow. It has a factory hitch and we plan for now to keep it like that as we show more than pull. Tricycle front end and runs on gas. gonna check your site right now and see what all is on there. I'll seee what I can find out about the heds and all in the morning. Thanks again!
