Has anyone completed this conversion? If so I would like to speak about that possibility. I have a retired GB that needs a rebuild or repower, whats the best idea.

I don't know what you are trying to compete against or how hard they are built. I really dobut that the Detroit would have enough lug to make first gear work. How fast would that go in low with the RPM's a Detroit runs? 504 blocks would help your tractor a great deal. I'm not sure what problems you would run into trying to put a 585 in it. You would have to chace some parts down off other tractors and some powerunits and check them to see if they would work. If you want a diesel there are some people that have build the 425's and have more power than the 585 so maybe that is the way you want to go. That would be the hardest for the rules to stop. If you want to go to gas or LP a 605 or 800 would be the way to go. But before you do anyting get a copy of your rules and see what you can do. DON'T build the tractor and find out the rules wont let you pull it. The 585, 605, and 800 would be easy to get rid of with a change in the rules. There are lots of builds out there so you can build about any MM engine you want to.

Guys, dont knock the Detroits.I have a 1967 Oliver 1950 with a 4-53 Detroit and its far from a piece of junk!!Name any other tractor with 212 cubic inches that will pull a 6x16 plow or a 21ft disk, etc.Back in the good old days of the 70's I pulled a 1966 Oliver 1950 in the 15,000 lb class.I beat many tractors running more horses including MM's with that little 4-53.A 6-71 has much more hp.I would rather him leave it MM but theres nothing wrong with a Detroit.

I am an MM man too and have owned, farmed, and pulled with many of them including a M-5,M-670,G-900,445,UTS,GTB,GBD,UDLX,21-32 TC and much-much more.I used to work part time at our local MM dealer Bell Tractor at Milo,MO.Just ask well known MM collector Curtis Rink if I havent owned a bunch of MM's and TC's.He bought a bunch from me.

I am open to all suggestions. My tractor is in need of an overhaul. I see this as a good window of opportunity to do an upgade that would make this machine more competitive against those green tractors. I would look at the bigger diesel M-M conversions or the 800 conversion. I do need more help with knowledge. What help is out there.

I dont pull tractors myself but a couple of my friends do and in my area you have to use the stock block. If yours is the GB with the 6 cyl diesel you could upgrade the engine parts wise. or you may be able to upgrade the block to the 504? If yours is the 4 cyl gasoline tractor you may want overhaul what you have as the tractor serial number prefixes are diferent for gas and diesel.
