Whoa! I have got to save you! You can buy these latches, the closest thing besides getting an original is at NAPA. There are about the same as a jeep hood latch. Try and take in what you might have and show them, they may be able to pinpoint it quickly. I am not close to my box or I could give you the number. Sill a bit pricey, around 10.00 a latch I believe. You have to rivet them back in where the old latch was, but they look nice and work very well.

Has anyone found a good way to re-attach these latches. I have scrounged junk yards and have many broken ones that I have made good ones out of for my use, but have never found a good way to reattach them, other than use cotter keys. It seems one would need a small diameter solid metal round stock that is mallable so you could mushroom the ends, like the originals. Any ideas??

I beleive the best way would to use brake rivets. You nee sort of a short fat one. Rivets are getting pretty hard to find. Dad and I attatched a new hood latch to that U on photo ads and we used rivets. It wasn't the prettiest job in the world but it is solid.

I have repaired those latches that only had broken springs by twisting out the old spring and twisting in a good new spring of about the correct size, using needle nose pliers. Then to put them back in the mount, I use 8-penny nails. I cut them 3/8" or so long, hold the end of the nail against the grinder and when they get red hot the end mushrooms out and doesn't come out of the hole.

mm602,

As of a few months ago these were still available. You might want to try another dealer, or try a couple of the parts suppliers listed here. Or else, just start hitting the junk yards, or advertise for them. Hope this helps.
