I currently have a Minneapolis Moline Stationary engine.. the engine was used to run a sawmill.
I belive it is between 75 and 100HP. I recently purchased the sawmill and It has not run for 10 plus years. need parts sources and information. I intend to re-build and re-paint.

Thanks in advance

Your 403 is just about the same engine that was used in the G tractor. An I&T manual for the G should give you the information you need to re-build it. You can also try to find an original service manual. We have some 605s that used the same blocks, pistons, heads, etc as your engine. The only difference is the 403 is 4 cylinder and the 605 is a 6 cylinder. They a good reliably engines. An Agco dealer should have the parts you need.

The older 605s and 403s had cast iron pistons that required lower RPMs than the newer Aluminum ones. The 605 we have with cast iron piston (running on a well since 1955 and has never been overhauled) only runs at 1160 RPM, but the Aluminum ones run at 1440. New pistons are very expensive. Over all it is a very easy engine to work on.

Loosen the # 1 plug and crank over the engine with a wrench until air comes out. Continue cranking until # 1 piston is is at top dead center. The coupling on the engine should be horizontal. I then line up the rotor in the mag to the top right terminal on the cap and the impulse has just clicked (you can turn it backwards to bypass the impulse and to get it in the right spot also don’t hold you hand over the terminal it could shock you). The coupling on the mag should be horizontal. Install the mag and put #1 plug wire the top right terminal. In a clock-wise direction put #3,4, and 2 wires on. Fire it up and adjust the timing.

As for the exhaust manifold I would post and add on this site or look a salvage yard. I have also seen new one build for wells motors out of extra thick wall square tubing. I did not like them though.

I bought a new manifold-intake and exhaust- for a M5 and put it on my 403 but I installed it in a MM U. It does require you to make a longer governor rod, however. and on a power unit, if it has the under the hood air cleaner, the air cleaner might have to be moved upward a bit to line up with the carbruretor.
Another thing I've seen done on U's is to cut all parts of the old exhaust manifold off except the intake runner that goes thru it and carb flange, and use only the exhaust manifold for a M5. That looks kinda odd, though.
If yours is set up for kerosene, you'll need to find another original type manifold. May God Bless you.

Kevin, do you have pictures... the original carb manifold setup had a spacer between carb and manifold.

Need to find engine serial tag if you can to find out what engine you have. If not find base block, jugs and head part numbers. Does it have one head on 4 cyl or does it have heads for pair of cylynder. Need more information for ID and thus parts availability
