Hello, I have a 400 with the lighter front end also. They are basicly the same as the Jet Star 2 farm model. The 400's were sold by M-M industrial dealers mostly and the could be ordered how ever the customer wanted. For example if a city wanted a tractor only for roadside mowing it could have the light front end. If they wanted to put a loader on it they could order the heavy duty front end but they may not order it with a 3pt hitch. It all depends on what it was going to be used for and how much the customer was willing to spend. The trans shift lever can take a little geting used to if not fimilar with M-M's as it has a long throw from neutral to a gear.If you get it and need parts or more information give me a email as where I work we still deal a lot with smaller M-M tractors. The hardest parts to find is nice sheet metal.

Good luck with your 400. I have two 400's in Western Minnesota. Any idea where I can buy a service manual?
