I have a 2-150 with a 585 moline motor that has a rod bearing that's stuck tight.Should I try to find a used one or rebuild the one I've got? Is there any good repower units out there for this tractor? Are parts available? This tractor is used for light duty around the farm.

I'm in the process of rebuilding ours right now. Pistons for it are around $200 a pop times six - $1200 for all six. The bearings are around $350 for a complete set of rods and mains. Rings for the pistons are $60 a cylinder. Gasket set is another $300+ ;for a total of around $2000 for just the parts not including labor. You might be able to get your crank turned down where your rod bearing is stuck. You are allowed to go .010 - .030 (maybe .040 :I can't remember)undersize. All the parts are available through Agco yet. You might be able to get away with a bottom end rebuild. I agree with Dave, that the bottom end isn't the best with four main bearings, but we got a pulling tractor and a farm tractor with same engine in it. Our Oliver 2155 has the internal oil pump, but the 2-150 has the external and yours should also. The oil pump is below the injection pump. The 2155 is pushing out around 350 - 400 HP and the bottom end holds together, but won't if you go much above this. Our 2-150 is running around 225 Hp with a turbo on it also and we had absolutely no problems with the engine. The cross hatch on the cylinders was gone and the ring end gap and side clearance was excessive that resulted in our excessive blowby. We are going to put the pistons out of the 2655 turbo engine in ours to help with this problem. These tractors aren't light duty. We pull are 5000 gallon tanker and 28ft disc on our hills with this tractor weighing around 19,000lbs. If you replace this engine, make sur ethe replacemnet has the external oil pump or you'll be replacing cams and oil pump gears. With a replacement engine you don't know if it is in need of a rebuild or not so I would stay with the 585 MM that is in it.

If your 585 does not have the external oil pump make sure the cam and oil pump drive gear are ok that is what normally fails. If you dont need the HP you could put a 504 in it that is what the propane version runs they are more plentiful. Dave

585 are a little pricey to work on. Have some bottom end problems. I would rebuild if you can. If not there are parts out there. Search for minneapolis home page. There are parts sources listed there.
